The reality of high fuel prices
,
“We can ignore reality,” author Ayn Rand once said, “but we cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.” That’s as good a description of the problem of high fuel prices as you will find.

 The trash man
,
The Fountainhead  | Ayn Rand [...] wrote a long passage in “The Fountainhead” on how to wreck a society. One of the rules she cites is to teach them (the people) to laugh at everything. Comics like [Bill] Maher are doing that.

• • Do you feel any better?
,
The author Ayn Rand believed that all works of art were a reflection of the soul of the creator. On a television show, the host asked her, "Well, don't you think people of whom you disapprove have the right to produce their own works?" She replied, "Of course they have the right, but if I had a garbage can for a soul, I wouldn't want to put it on public display." A great many people in the so-called creative-arts world today do have garbage cans for souls, and they do put them on public display.

 Brain-directed animals
,
Ayn Rand said it well when she observed that we can evade reality, but we cannot evade the consequences of evading reality.

Michael Crichton
,
Hype and exaggeration seem to have infected every aspect of American life. In this atmosphere, Crichton is like Ayn Rand's fictional ideal man of reason. Look at the data. Apply reason. Make sure the data is correct.

Slipped his moorings
,
Bin Laden and his small band of followers hate our guts. So what? They are half a drop in the bucket of 6 billion people. Bush has so distorted his view of reality, he does not seem to realize that most of our "allies" in the Middle East are dictators, and the people he calls terrorists – Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah – participated in free elections. [....] We should remember the warning of Ayn Rand: "We can evade reality, but we cannot evade the consequences of evading reality."

Be careful what you hear
,
On the value of General Semantics.
Ayn Rand used to say we can evade reality, but we can't evade the consequences of evading reality.

Don’t tell me ‘may’ or ‘could’
,
One of the illusions we in America all have at one time or another is the belief that if we can just create the right system, everybody can be prosperous and healthy. Sadly, that is not so. Some people just have bad luck....Our choice is either to follow Ayn Rand's path and let them perish while we pursue our own selfish interests, or to follow the path of Christianity, Buddhism and Islam and feed the hungry, clothe the naked and minister to the sick.

We must save our resources
,
On the necessity of conservation and population reduction.
Just remember what Ayn Rand said. We can evade reality, but we cannot evade the grim consequences of evading reality
