• • • Who Is John Galt?
,
Atlas Shrugged movie  |Atlas Shrugged  | The big thinkers over at the Atlas Shrugged movie site are taking another poll. [....] And who do the Objectivists see as the ideal John Galt? Benedict Cumberbatch seems to be a popular choice, although there are recommendations for conservative actors Gary Sinise, Kelsey Grammer, Jim Caviezel, and Tom Selleck, too. Daniel Craig, Clive Owen, Nathan Fillion, and even George Clooney are mentioned a few times. Shockingly, only one person mentions Tom Cruise, who for some reason I think would play a great self-satisfied prick.

• • Children Are Parasites Who Take and Take and Take
,
Atlas Shrugged  | I got an e-mail this morning detailing the perfect Mother's Day gift for mothers who also happen to be total assholes: “Make May 12th An Atlas Shrugged Mother's Day.”

• • Yes, There Will Be a Third Atlas Shrugged Movie
,
Atlas Shrugged movie  |Atlas Shrugged  | After the abysmal box office of Atlas Shrugged, Part 2 made the abysmal box office of Atlas Shrugged, Part 1 look huge in comparison, I feared that there would be no third movie to complete the adaptation of Ayn Rand's teabagnum opus. The third Atlas Shrugged movie could potentially be the worst movie of all time.

Paul Ryan Will Work as Hard as He Can to Repeal Obamacare
,
Atlas Shrugged  |Paul Ryan  | So Ryan is going to continue to build his little fantasy budgets for the America that voted three-to-one for a Romney/Ryan ticket, even though reality looks nothing like that America. This makes his budget into nothing more than Atlas Shrugged fanfic.

In Which Rob! Speaks For Us All
,
The quality of Slog comments is always very high when compared to other blogs, but I've noticed an increase in the thoughtfulness and all-around engagement of comments over the last couple of weeks. So welcome back to Allyn, caralain, and undead ayn rand, and thank you to everyone else for the great conversation.

• • Why Does Glenn Beck Hate the Gap?
,
Atlas Shrugged  |Going Galt  | Yes, so Glenn Beck says he's "Going Galt" and setting up a self-sustaining libertarian commune somewhere. (For the moment, let's ignore the fact that in Atlas Shrugged, nobody ever announced that they were going Galt; they just disappeared so the helpless takers wouldn't try to ruin everything for them.)

Whiny-Baby Conservative Blogger Won't Run for Office Because Waaaaaaahhhhh
,
[....] I bet [Erick] Erickson's old relationship with his totally hot girlfriend in Canada would have become an issue during the race, too, and that would've been a real distraction. (“Shut up, guys! She totally exists! We have long conversations about Ayn Rand and then we totally do it. [....].”)

• • Potty-Mouthed President Obama Expertly Dissects Ayn Rand's Novels
,
Paul Ryan  | [T] the thing that makes me want to stand up and cheer in the Rolling Stone interview is this bit about Ayn Rand [....]. [....] Any president who can carve the thesis of Ayn Rand's "philosophy" to shreds in a single paragraph is my kind of president

,
Atlas Shrugged movie  |Atlas Shrugged  |Capitalism  | Those brave souls behind the second Atlas Shrugged movie disaster are still plugging away at their little website, pretending that they still have a chance at recouping their terrible losses. One of the ways they're trying to sell movie tickets? A blog, recounting the many Randian victories that happen in their everyday life

Atheism  |Paul Ryan  | “I reject [Ayn Rand’s] philosophy,” Ryan says firmly. “It’s an atheist philosophy." Right. Because the big problem with Ayn Rand is her atheism.

• • Happy Birthday, Ayn Rand! You Get a Crappy Sequel.
,
Atlas Shrugged movie  |Atlas Shrugged  | The producers of Atlas Shrugged, Part 1 took advantage of the occasion of Ayn Rand’s 107th birthday today to announce that they’re going to put out a sequel.

• • • A**hole’s paradise
,
Atlas Shrugged movie  |Atlas Shrugged  |Image  | I’m not going to debate the points of objectivism anymore. Life’s too short. If you think Ayn Rand is great, we can basically shake hands and part ways right there; we have nothing to offer each other as human beings. Rand offers a childish worldview, intended for people who don’t want to think about the world like grown-ups because thinking like a grown-up is too difficult.

• • • The atheist soul of neocons
,
Atheism  |Atlas Shrugged  |Capitalism  | Review of Jennifer Burns’ Goddess of the Market: Ayn Rand and the American Right.
Too many critical biographies linger salaciously on Rand's affairs and jealousy, as if confusing her personal flaws for a flaw in objectivism. Burns doesn't cast judgment on the final years of Rand's life. That's the best part of Goddess: Rather than transforming Rand into a saint or a demon, Burns reimagines her as a human being. It's a sensible move. Without all the hyperbole blocking intelligent discourse, the real business of dissecting and investigating Rand's ideas can actually begin.

You are god in a physical body
,
Commentary critical of the self-help book, The Secret.
This is the closest I've ever come to calling for a good old-fashioned book burning, and I've read Dianetics and the Bible and the complete works of Ayn Rand.
