They are “egoists” rather than true conservatives. Their gospel is the philosophy of Ayn Rand, who wrote “Atlas Shrugged” and “The Fountainhead” and “The Virtue of Selfishness.” The Ayn Rand philosophy was a reaction to communism in Russia -- from which she fled.
