‘John Galt attitude’ far from Christian

“I swear by my life and my love of it that I shall never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.” These are the words of John Galt, the hero in Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged” and one of Paul Ryan’s role models. I memorized these words in 1961 because I had gotten a free ride through Lawrence College from my Republican parents, who taught me to work for whatever I wanted, and I was proud of my ability to “live for the sake of myself.”
