Now that the Republicans will be taking control of the U.S. House of Representatives, we are hearing calls for them to “compromise” with the Democrats to “get things done” and avoid “gridlock.” The implicit assumption is that compromise is an unqualified good. Nothing can be further from the truth. “In any compromise between good and evil, it is only evil that can profit” (Ayn Rand).
