[Sen. Ted Cruz] devoted more time to [Rand] Paul’s cause than any other colleague, holding forth at length throughout the marathon to give his ally a chance to rest. He invoked Lord Acton’s aphorism about power corrupting, and the Federalist Papers’ warnings about factions. He cited his “all-time hero, Ayn Rand” and her critique of the “parasitical class.” He read scores of encouraging tweets. [....] This was actually his debut on the Senate floor, and an unusual one it was.
