Atheism |Atlas Shrugged |Capitalism |Personal life | I recently read “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand, who has become a saint to all who believe that the government is too large and that no restrictions should be placed on our capitalistic economic system. Rand was born and raised in Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution. She came to Chicago as a young woman and never returned to her homeland. After learning English, she worked in Hollywood as a script writer. After marrying, she embarked on writing books. The massive, 1,200-page “Atlas Shrugged” took five years to write. When I first stated to read the book, I thought that I would only find arguments supporting conservative economic points of view. I did find these arguments. Rand was even against income taxes.
