‘BioShock Infinite’ Targeted By Political Activists
,
BioShock |
Levine and developer Irrational Games are no stranger to political controversy. The series creator says that with the original BioShock, Objectivists were “infuriated.” “BioShock had the same thing, where you had Objectivists being infuriated by it, and people more on the left thinking that it was a love letter to Objectivism. I think these games are a bit of a Rorschach for people. It’s usually a negative Rorshach. It pisses them off, you know?”

Paul Ryan |
Ayn Rand, best known for writing really really long books, and by college students who quote her without having even read them,is back in the political conversation lately. As one of GOP VP-pick Paul Ryan’s favorite authors, Rand’s capitalistic philosophy of individualism is earning new scrutiny these days, primarily by liberals trying to tear down Mitt Romney’s running mate. In any case, thinkers on both sides of the political spectrum are sounding off on Rand, her philosophies, and their place in American politics lately. The best defense of Ayn Rand comes from Cathy Young, and the harshest criticism, from Paul Krugman.

Why Twitter is the only thing in the world that can save the world

Egoism |
Humor.
The second biggest danger to the world right now is selfishness. [....] Buddhists are against it and everyone knows Buddhism is really cool, because there’s no god or anything, you just sit around and light incense and say cool chants. Even Jesus didn’t like selfishness. Pretty much the only people that embrace selfishness are jerks, Capitalists, and Ayn Rand fans. Selfishness is a big problem, because when people act in their own self interest, they tend to go to work, keep working, and buy stuff.
