• • Sex Pioneer John Williamson Dies At 80

[Williamson and his wife] first met in 1966, when [he] had already quit a defense-industry job in disgust, reportedly after reading Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. The two bonded and eventually decided to open the free love retreat, although Sandstone may have turned out a bit more Robert Heinlein than Ayn Rand.

• • Christmas Gifts For My Kids, Not Obama
,
Atlas Shrugged  |Going Galt  | Confiscatory taxation and piling on regulations on innovators and risk takers — irrespective of what we may think of them personally or our feelings of envy– who create new businesses means a loss of goods and services, higher costs passed along to the consumer, and disappearing jobs. If entrepreneurs “go Galt” (a reference to Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged meaning dropping out), the ramifications for the economy are far reaching.

• • ‘BioShock Infinite’ Targeted By Political Activists
,
BioShock  | Levine and developer Irrational Games are no stranger to political controversy. The series creator says that with the original BioShock, Objectivists were “infuriated.” “BioShock had the same thing, where you had Objectivists being infuriated by it, and people more on the left thinking that it was a love letter to Objectivism. I think these games are a bit of a Rorschach for people. It’s usually a negative Rorshach. It pisses them off, you know?”

Atlas Shrugged movie  |Atlas Shrugged  |Image  | Director John Putch’s Atlas Shrugged: Part 2 was met with disinterest from the North American movie-going public, Alt Film Guide reports. The film, which stars Samantha Mathis, is the second part of the epic cinematic adaptation of author Ayn Rand’s 1975 novel. On Friday, the movie only managed to make around $692,000 from over 1,000 locations. When you break down those numbers to reveal the project’s per-location totals, the second installment only managed to earn around $684 at each theaters.

• • • Sean Hannity Has Cameo In Atlas Shrugged Part II; Ayn Rand Film Adaption Premieres October 12
,
Atlas Shrugged movie  |Atlas Shrugged  |Capitalism  |Egoism  |Individualism  |Personal life  |Image  |Video  | Atlas Shrugged Part I was considered a bomb after it was released last year. Even those potential moviegoers predisposed to Rand’s philosophy of Objectivism (i.e., rational self interest or even radical individualism some might say) were likely turned off by the trailer which appeared to be make the film look like a tedious talkfest. This may have been one case where the filmmakers were too faithful to the original Ayn Rand book.

• • • Ayn Rand’s Comeback: Arguements On Her Place In Contemporary Politics
,
Atlas Shrugged  |Capitalism  |Egoism  |Individualism  |Paul Ryan  | Ayn Rand, best known for writing really really long books, and by college students who quote her without having even read them,is back in the political conversation lately. As one of GOP VP-pick Paul Ryan’s favorite authors, Rand’s capitalistic philosophy of individualism is earning new scrutiny these days, primarily by liberals trying to tear down Mitt Romney’s running mate. In any case, thinkers on both sides of the political spectrum are sounding off on Rand, her philosophies, and their place in American politics lately. The best defense of Ayn Rand comes from Cathy Young, and the harshest criticism, from Paul Krugman.

,
Atheism  |Atlas Shrugged  |Individualism  |Paul Ryan  |Image  | Ayn Rand is revered in conservative political circles for the self-sufficient ethic that pervades her books, but the connection to the writer might become a political concern for newly named VP candidate Paul Ryan.

Why Twitter is the only thing in the world that can save the world
,
Egoism  | Humor.
The second biggest danger to the world right now is selfishness. [....] Buddhists are against it and everyone knows Buddhism is really cool, because there’s no god or anything, you just sit around and light incense and say cool chants. Even Jesus didn’t like selfishness. Pretty much the only people that embrace selfishness are jerks, Capitalists, and Ayn Rand fans. Selfishness is a big problem, because when people act in their own self interest, they tend to go to work, keep working, and buy stuff.
